Author Lauren Davis Interviewed Me about Paddling the Sweet Spot Between Life and Death for The Poetry Cafe.

First, read an interview with me by author Lauren Davis on The Poetry Cafe. I talk about my forthcoming chapbook, Paddling the Sweet Spot, how it came to be, what influenced my writing, how publishing my work relates to present-mindedness, and thoughts I would like to share with readers. I did not share my work to receive responses of “how sad” but for potentially “how inspiring.” – Laura E. Garrard

The Museum of Northwest Art Writes on Its Walls.

Then, listen. The Museum of Northwest Art (MoNA) in LaConner, Washington, is a wonderful museum with an impressive collection for its size, and curates art exhibits that frequently change. I recently wrote a poem, “Death Defiant,” after an oil painting at MoNA called “Kayapó Chief” by Seattle artist Alfredo Arreguin. The artist had been inspired by a Brazilian environmental activist, the late Paulhino Paiakan. The artist is Mexican but immigrated as a college student and attended the University of Washington. Link here to MoNA’s The Writing’s on the Wall Ekphrastic Poetry Series to hear me read my poem.
